17th December 2008
Septicflesh, Moonspell, Gorgoroth, Cradle of Filth
It’s Metal Time! On 17th December I went to the Filth Fest and five bands were on the agenda. Besides CRADLE OF FILTH also ASRAI, SEPTICFLESH, MOONSPELL and GORGOROTH were supposed to perform. Unfortunately, the band ASRAI had to cancel their performance on short notice. Turns out it was for the benefit of the four remaining acts. When I arrived, I spotted a queue of freezing and soaked people in front of the entrance. One of the bands arrived too late and so the sound check was still ongoing and admission was delayed. The Live-Music-Hall eventually opened its gates with a delay of 1.5 h and when 2/3 of the attendees finally got in, the time had already come…

Oomph!, All Ends, Mina Harker
The monsters from Wolfsburg returned to Bochum. The Zeche was totally sold out, no wonder after the success of the new album and second single 'Labyrinth'. The audience was mixed with younger and older fans but not so many very young girls anymore which became quite normal after the success of ‘Augen auf’. But before it was time for OOMPH! at about 9.15 pm there were MINA HARKER and the Swedish band ALL ENDS with not only one but two front women to kick your ass. ALL ENDS have been already in the top ten of the Swedish charts and they were supporting OOMPH! on their latest tour.

Music, art, workshops, lectures and shopping
With winter on its way it was time again for the annual Midwinterfair in the Archeon. The entire Archeon was full of life. In the Roman bathhouse there were several lectures. For instance by young writer Thomas Olde Heuvelt. The second lecture of the day was by Professor Rotherham about the magical animals of ancient Egypt. These animals are of course the gods. It turns out there is actually only one actual god: Ra. The others are only avatars. Downstairs in the bathhouse music was being played and many visitors enjoyed a nice meal.

In Extremo, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Limbogott
It was time for a night of metal and folk in Utrecht. Many fans had gathered in the Tivoli for this great line up of bands. All bands come from Germany where the market for this kind of music is a lot bigger than here in the Netherlands.

Christmas concert: New Model Army & The (International) Noise Conspiracy
This year, Christmas time is New Model Army time once again: I got the chance to be part of one of the treasured Christmas concerts of the troop from the North of England (my first Army concert by the way). Due to the pre-Christmas traffic jam and because of the fact that nearly every parking lot in the area was already taken Marcus (photographer and a friend of mine as well) and I missed the supporting act VOIST.
