For 10 years now, Bastian Emig tried to find the right sound for his project IN LEGEND. In 2010, the band released their first EP ‘Pandemonium’ and showed the world that Metal can’t only be done by hard guitar riffs. If you search for a single word to describe IN LEGEND’s music, you could use their own creation “piano metal”. The description fits perfectly because they are the only Metal band in the world where a piano is dominating the sound. The German Band consists of Bastian Emig ( piano, leadsinger), Daniel Wicke ( Bass) and Dennis Otto( drums). They are able to convince even ordinary metal fans that a piano can be a good choice for replacing the guitars. Though using a piano their sound is true and rough and not soft girl music.
The album combines ballads and sing-along choruses as well as drum-dominated songs. ‘Heya’ shows a great combination of drums and piano without sounding too drum controlled. If listening first ‘Pandemonium’ and ‘Vortex’ as well as ‘At Her Side’ will stuck in one’s head. The voice of lead singer Bastian reminds a bit of Chad Kruger of NICKELBACK. But no offence meant. He is singing really emotional and clean. His voice has a very keen sound and in combination with piano sounds In Legend produced a perfect soundtrack for dreaming and getting lost in the music. ‘Ballads ’n’ Bullets’ is a perfect mix of as the name says ballads, earworms and harder songs. The band just made a perfect first album and will convince even old-school metal fans. The concept of using a piano instead of guitars works and will work on future albums.
