She Past Away, Golden Apes & The Foreign Resort

This breath-taking concert took place in almost complete darkness. The sparsely lit stage gave the Goth, Post-Punk and Wave music an appropriately gloomy and mystical setting. Due to the relatively late start of the event, the Bi Nuu was already well filled as the evening got underway and as the show began, the club was nearly completely sold-out.

The Foreign Resort

They are still relatively unknown in Germany. In terms of Post-Punk and New Wave, THE FOREIGN RESORT are one of the best exports from Denmark. The trio consisting of Mikkel B. Jakobsen (vocals, guitar, and bass), Steffan Petersen (guitar, bass) and Morten Hansen (drums) has already played over 400 concerts in North America and Europe. The current album is called ‘The American Dream’. /

Music & Performance
At 9.00pm, THE FOREIGN RESORT entered the stage. Even with first sounds of the opener ‘Onto us’ it was already clear where this journey was going. Wonderful New Wave sounds of the 80s played in the style of THE CURE and NEW ORDER. Because of the brisk sound and the ingenious Wave guitars, the band had the audience immediately under control. Lured inside by the sounds from the stage, many people left the smoker and bar area not to miss the concert. Of course the Danes also presented their latest single ‘She is lost’. Among the many great songs was also ‘Alone’ from the 2014 album ‘New Frontiers’. They ended the sixty minutes performance with the song ‘Dark White’.

Golden Apes

You like Gothic Rock and dark voices? Then you are in the right place with the GOLDEN APES. The Berlin gothic rockers released their current album ‘MɅLVS’ in 2016. It is already the eighth studio album of the band, which was founded almost 20 years ago. With it they have delivered their masterpiece and a more versatile sound than ever. /

Music & Performance
The stage became darker, not only in terms of lighting, but also musically. The GOLDEN APES started their set with ‘Ignorance’ from the current album. This was followed by three more songs from the album ‘MɅLVS’. The band and audience dived willingly together into the gloomy world of the GOLDEN APES. Singer Peer Lebrecht’s natural, easy charisma is impressive. You notice how he lives and feels his music. During the new song ‘Voykova’, the stage was bathed in dark blue light, supported by bright headlights. The club was almost completely filled and time flew by. ‘Ferryman’ was one of only a few older titles of the evening. A great one-hour concert ended with the theme song of the 2012 album ‘Riot’.

She Past Away

The music from Turkish band SHE PAST AWAY finds its place somewhere between Gothic and Dark Wave. They have no real musical comparison, although their sound is probably located between THE SISTERS OF MERCY and DAF. By singing in Turkish, they take the daring risk of not being internationally successful. But maybe that's what makes SHE PAST AWAY so special and unique. In addition, of course, feelings and emotions in your own language can be expressed much better. SHE PAST AWAY founded in 2006 and have released two studio albums, as well as an EP, and a remix album. /

Music & Performance
At midnight, Volkan Caner (vocals, guitar) and Doruk Öztürkcan (keyboard) came on stage. Immediately they noticed that not all devices were connected and tried in vain on the dark stage to correct the situation. A fan helped out and gave Doruk his smartphone to use it as a flashlight. Soon the problem was solved and the concert could begin. Crashing drumbeats and the dominant, hypnotic guitars control the sound of the Turks. Of course, the Turkish lyrics make it difficult for most of the audience to sing along. Instead one can immerse themselves completely to the music and dance without distraction, and after a few minutes, almost everyone was doing so. The band played themselves into a frenzy and presented well known songs like ‘Soluk’ and ‘Kasvetli Kutlama’.

After about an hour, Volkan and Doruk said goodbye. The audience roared their approval very loudly and the musicians soon returned to the stage for two encores. A great evening of music was over and the fans could now continue the nightlife in one of the many clubs of Berlin.
