THE SISTERS OF MERCY have been active for over 40 years and, even without releasing any new music for more than 30 years, have achieved legendary status. To this day, the band led by mastermind Andrew Eldritch sets the bar when it comes to their very own brand of Rock. Now they are coming on an extensive tour of Europe this autumn.Part Punk, part Psychedelic, part Industrial, part DAVID BOWIE and a few spicy additions from other genres were needed to create a completely new sound in the early 1980s. Founded in Leeds in 1980 and named after a Leonard Cohen song, THE SISTERS OF MERCY proved with their unique style how music could sound in the post-punk era of the time - and with great success.
The 1987 album ‘Floodland’ brought the band their big breakthrough with tracks such as ‘Dominion’, ‘Lucretia My Reflection’ and, of course, the ten-minute opus ‘This Corrosion’, which still spreads their epic sound across dance floors today. The follow-up album ‘Vision Thing’, released in 1990, marked a stylistic evolution for the band and was characterised by a harder, more metal-influenced sound, while retaining the band’s signature drum machine sound and lyrical ambiguity.
In the 1990s, Eldritch shifted his focus from releasing music recordings to live performances. Although THE SISTERS OF MERCY have not released an album since then, their popularity and influence have only grown over time. Together with bands such as BAUHAUS, JOY DIVISION, RED LORRY YELLOW LORRY and THE CURE, THE SISTERS OF MERCY formed a stable foundation on which generations of musicians could build.
Not only the band, but also their live performances are legendary. Eldritch and drum machine Doktor Avalanche are now the only remaining members from the old days. But that doesn’t detract from the sound of THE SISTERS OF MERCY. Measured against the longevity of other guitarists, Ben Christo is also a veteran of the SISTERS. This year, he celebrates his twentieth anniversary on stage with the band.
With its influential catalogue, this musical project, in its changing line-ups, guarantees magnificent concert experiences and evenings that never even begin to exude anything like nostalgia. This is ensured by the fantastic cover versions and, of course, the old yet eternally fresh songs of these legends. This autumn, THE SISTERS OF MERCY are on an extensive tour of Germany and other European countries to once again spread their fascinating aura.
The tour is presented by Sonic Seducer and laut.de. Reflections of Darkness will of course also be there.
