Universal D.O.G., Lahr, Germany
April 22nd 2006
Faun, Diorama, Kirlian Camera, Covenant
For the 17th Dark Dance Treffen in Lahr we decided to take the long way down to the south of Germany to see once again one of our all-time favourites Covenant besides some very nice other bands too. We arrived early enough at the venue to see Covenant’s sound check and get a short impression of what to expect later. Because we still had lot’s of time we decided to have some food nearby and returned to the venue around seven. The Universal D.O.G. is a very nice venue with several different rooms where the concerts took place and where different dance floors were spread. In the out-door area there was another dance floor as well as a merchandising market and an area where you could get food and where they held some BBQ. http://www.dark-dance.de

Gorefest, Thanatos
On this wannabe summer day, I left pretty early to Den Haag. When waiting in sun I see already a few of people walking around in Gorefest merchandise. Perhaps they had the same idea as me to enjoy the sun and the city before the concert starts. As the temperature is pretty high I was afraid it would be too warm in the venue as well, but after all I can only conclude it was not that warm inside.

Sphere of Souls, NovAct
Prog metal is hot! A lot of musicians feel the need in the last years to make complex and progressive music inspired by (most of the time) bands like Dream Theater. Result: a thousand copies claiming to be new and different. But some bands actually do make a change.

Anathema and Transworld
It’s amazing how a band like Anathema is able to change a truly lousy day into something beautiful. The day before I already went to Hengelo to see my favourite band play. So for me it was Anathema two days in a row…. Couldn’t get any better…

A few weeks before the festival the organisation of Rockweekend 2006 started panicking. The terrain which is normally used for this festival, couldn’t be used because some birds breeding their eggs on the terrain. So, they start looking for an alternative location and luckily they found one. It was only 5 km from the nearest train station. Well, they hired some busses to bring the visitors to Rockweekend. But nobody knew what time they came and so it comes that I had to wait with a few others for more then an hour. At least… That was told. But then a nice man with a little bus came to pick up a guy which had to work at Rockweekend and took us too. So sitting down in the sun on a small bench, I saw all artists arrive. With only 15 minutes left until the doors will be open, there are not many visitors. But then the first busses arrive and there is the public.
