UNPLACES released their new record, ‘Changes’, on 1 June. And we had the opportunity to talk to Dorette about tattoos and distract her a little bit from the release right before the first concert of their German tour. Now I would like to share our conversation with you.Reflections of Darkness [RoD]: When did you get your first tattoo and what was it? How long did it take you to decide to get it?
Dorette: I got my first tattoo at the age of 18 or 19, in time for high school graduation. It was a female angel with a halo and a bared chest holding a “metal axe” (an electric guitar) in her hand. I did not mull over it for very long, I just wanted to get it, and the image just simply fit me.

I like coincidences, just as I was on holiday in Italy, I was contacted by Lou, the vocalist of the Melodic Metal band of BLACK LIGHT from Italy. We did not manage to organize a meeting, but this did not stop us from holding the interview anyway, especially because Lou recently entered in this world of pain and ink, so his impressions were fresh and bright.Reflections of Darkness [RoD]: When did you get your first tattoo and what was it? Did it take much time until you decided to get it done?
Lou: I got my first tattoo one month ago. I was thinking about it since a lot of time, and when I got the chance to make it, I just caught it. The tattoo represents a lightsaber, with the word “Djem-So” coming outta the blade. Then we added an orange background, some leaves, and crystals. For the ones who don’t know, on the Star Wars universe, the lightsaber blade’s colour depend on the crystal placed into it, which also makes the blade to exist as well. This type of crystal is called a “kyber”.

Our guest today comes from Ukraine and represents the Modern Glam Rock scene. His love to the beautiful Japanese culture has been implemented in most parts of his tattoos. So let’s listen to his story.Reflections of Darkness [RoD]: When did you get your first tattoo and what was it? How long did it take you to decide to get it?
Bogdan: I was interested in tattoos from an early age. When I was a child, I remember pausing ‘Showdown in Little Tokyo’ on my VCR to look at the painted Yakuza. But I got my first tattoo only when I was 21. It took me a long time to make up my mind. And perhaps it influenced what I decided to get in the end - I clearly knew that I wanted nothing less than a whole “sleeve”. Naturally, it had to be done in Japanese style, with flowers, waves and Oni [supernatural ogres or trolls in Japanese folklore]. Of course, it took more than just one evening to get it done, but I walked out of the first session with my forearm almost completely covered in ornaments.

Today, I am happy to introduce a wonderful woman and a skilled designer Elena Osadchа. She expresses her love for beauty not only through her fantastic jewellery, but also through her tattoos, and she has quite a few of those. But I will not reveal all the secrets in the introduction. Enjoy the interview. Reflections of Darkness [RoD]: When did you get your first tattoo and what was it? How long did it take you to decide to get it?
Elena: I got my first tattoo at the age of 18. It was a solar symbol on my shoulder blade. I had planned to do it for a long time, so, when the time came, my mind was already made up.

Finally, according to the weather, it is summer - the time of short skirts and showing décolleté. Our guest today, Nataly Nichil, has something to show to others; her tattoos evoke delight and enchant with their ideas and variety. The festival season has begun and I think it is a chance for you to see all this beauty live, if not on the stage with UNTERSCHICHT, then within the visitors’ area...Reflections of Darkness [RoD]: When did you get your first tattoo and what was it? Did it take much time until you decided to get it done?
Nataly: I got my first tattoo when I was 20. Now I have a cover up there. That was kinda new school tattoo: the hand in roses was holding an origami crane. I always wanted to get inked but first of all I got to know several tattoo artists and then I started to tattoo my body.
