Wave Gotik Treffen 2016 (Day 3): Pride and Fall, Legend, Solar Fake, Mesh, Welle:Erdball, Theremin Chamber Concerto, Winter Severity Index, Jessica 93, The Blue Angel Lounge, Drangsal, Rotersand, PIL (Public Image Limited), Lord of the Lost, Darkhaus, The Legendary Pink Dots
We started the day with a walk through Leipzig’s wonderful city until we reached the Moritzbastei. As usually, many inhabitants of the city gathered there to watch the festival visitors and to take pictures of them. Sadly, heavy rain started and so we entered the Moritzbastei, like so many others, to have a drink instead. Today was Electro day for us and soon, we made our way to the Kohlrabizirkus, a wonderful building and old market hall, where already lots of people were waiting when we arrived at four.

Wave Gotik Treffen 2016 (Day 2): Diodati, Schwarzer Engel, Other Day, Joachim Witt, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Christ vs. Warhol, Lene Lovich, Estampie, Rose McDowall, Obsession Bizarre
A lot of people already started moaning ahead of the festival: “The wheatear is going to be awful. Rainy and cold...“ Bullshit! Yes, nights were cold and it was unstable, windy and at times rainy, but overall (as always) the wheatear throughout the WGT in Leipzig was good. Before our concert day started, we made a stop at Palmengarten for the Steampunk Picnic, organized by Goth United, Ruffles & Steam, Schwarzes Picknick Berlin, Schwarzes Picknick Hamburg and Clockworker.

Rock im Revier Day 2: Wild Lies, The Raven Age, Tremonti, Ghost, Sabaton, Iron Maiden
Today is the day that many Rock im Revier visitors have been waiting for. On this second festival day IRON MAIDEN will be on stage and their fans gather early. Around noon, the venue is already packed with people eagerly talking and buying shirts. This is going to be a hot day, as the line-up mainly consists of hard rock and metal bands. I wonder if the sound is going to be better today, and indeed it is. There are still some issues with loudness and microphones but sound quality in general has improved. And I am looking forward to another great day at Rock im Revier.

Rock im Revier Day 1: Prime Circle, Powerwolf, Garbage, Mando Diao
For the second time, rock and metal fans head to Rock im Revier festival. Last year, more than sixty bands played on three stages in and around the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, and about 45,000 people were having a blast. This year, Rock im Revier feels less like a festival and more like a concert. The line-up has shrunk considerably, counting less than twenty bands. On the first day, not too many people have come. We are at one of my least favourite venues, the Westfallenhalle in Dortmund, now.

Wave Gotik Treffen 2016 (Day 1): Victorian Picnic, Golden Apes, The Angina Pectoris, Triarii, Abney Park, Faun, Nouvelle Vague, Project Pitchfork, The Deadfly Ensemble, Peter Murphy
Most events (concerts, etc.) start later in the afternoon. Later than in the years before. Most visitors need some time to sleep of the party nights, freshen up or use the time to visit museums. The sunny weather would have been perfect for an open air concert and a lot of people miss the Parkbühne, the stage at the Clara Zetkin Park, which -apart from the “Victorian Picnic”- has no longer been part of the WGT since 2014.
