EP Review
After the successful debut album, German industrial project OST+FRONT presented a new creation that includes nine songs, among which are several different versions of the title track. An EP is always a good opportunity to get a quick introduction into a band’s style and to decide whether you like it or not. So the title track opening the whole thing sounds rather restrained, without unexpected passages or intricate sonic effects. Such simplicity can be regarded as an advantage as it allows a listener to appreciate good vocals and music although towards the end the melody starts making you bored a bit. Speaking about the cover versions of ‘Bitte schlag mich’, the most vigorous and sombre one was made by LORD OF THE LOST. In their turn, RABIA SORDA created somewhat dance and more positive composition, so one can choose which version of the song they personally like. As for me I prefer SALTATIO MORTIS’ piano cover. It’s beautiful, melodic and heartfelt showing an absolutely new facet of the original song when the lyrics start producing a new impression.
Two more remixes of ‘Bitte schlag mich’ are also presented on the album both have some interesting features and are good enough in their own ways. Of course, on the EP there still can be found three other tracks starting with the cover on FALCO’s ‘Out of the dark’ and rather good cover I must say. Powerful, massive and rich sound of ‘Silicon’ reminds that OST+FRONT are representatives of metal stage. ‘Denkelied’ seems to be quite expressive, especially the chorus and the orchestral arrangement sounds great. Finally the EP in general turns to be diverse and worthy to listen to. Those who became fans of the band after their debut album may find ‘Bitte schlag mich’ too mild and peaceful. And maybe it doesn’t reflect the visual presentation of OST+FRONT but I think it’s even better as the songs will please all lovers of good music while the videos and live shows of the project are definitely not for sensitive people.
