101 Voices - Depeche Mode with Male Choir and Symphony Orchestra

The concert production, which originated in Budapest, will make its Berlin debut at the Uber Arena on 16 December. 101 VOICES presents songs by DEPECHE MODE in specially developed arrangements created exclusively for the production. Special guest Christian Eigner, who has toured with DEPECHE MODE as their live drummer since 1998, will also be joining the line-up.

Berlin and the history of DEPECHE MODE have been closely connected for more than four decades. On 7 March 1988, the band played their first concert in East Berlin, and two days later the Music for the Masses Tour took them to Budapest. Now, 38 years on, the music of DEPECHE MODE once again brings the two cities together: on 16 December 2026, the Budapest-born concert production 101 Voices will make its first appearance in Berlin, taking to the stage at the Uber Arena.

101 VOICES brings familiar DEPECHE MODE songs to the stage in new arrangements developed specifically for the production. The band’s electronic sound is expanded with a male choir, symphony orchestra and live band. The songs are performed by several soloists from a variety of musical backgrounds. Rather than focusing on a single frontman, the production deliberately allows the voices and musical characters to change from one song to the next.

The idea behind 101 VOICES first emerged in 2014. It took almost ten years for it to develop into a concert production suitable for the arena stage. The show made its arena debut at Budapest’s MVM Dome in 2025. This December, two cities will follow in quick succession: on 10 December, 101 VOICES returns to the MVM Dome with a new programme, before making its first appearance in Berlin just six days later.

The production’s musical director and conductor is Richárd Riederauer, Artistic Director of the Hungarian National Male Choir. In the arrangements for 101 VOICES, the choir has a distinct musical role. Its parts do more than simply accompany the singers; they form an integral part of the reinterpretations. In Berlin, the Hungarian National Male Choir will be joined on stage by the Hungarian Studio Orchestra, a live band, vocalists and solo singers.

“Our aim was not to dress DEPECHE MODE’s music in a symphonic guise. Rather, we want to focus on its sensitivity and bring out the musical layers that a symphony orchestra and male choir can highlight in a very special way. We don’t want to imitate these songs, but to present them in a different light, revealing new details and emotional dimensions. At the same time, we want to celebrate the entire body of DEPECHE MODE’s work, with all its different phases.”

This year’s programme places a particular emphasis on Black Celebration. Released in 1986, the DEPECHE MODE album celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and is one of the key starting points for the 2026 programme. However, this is not an anniversary performance dedicated to a single album: the setlist spans songs from several different periods in the band’s history.

Christian Eigner Returns to 101 Voices

Christian Eigner will once again join 101 VOICES on stage in 2026. The Austrian musician has toured with DEPECHE MODE as their live drummer since 1998 and was already part of the production’s Budapest premiere in 2025. He will appear as a special guest at the Berlin concert.

Eigner has previously explained that he does not normally take part in tribute productions, but that the concept behind 101 VOICES caught his interest. His involvement in Budapest proved to be more than a one-off collaboration: the musical connection he developed with Richárd Riederauer during rehearsals has since led to further joint projects.

Also appearing at the Berlin concert will be Christian Schottstädt, vocalist and frontman of FORCED TO MODE. He will perform as a guest singer on two songs. With FORCED TO MODE, Schottstädt has already reinterpreted DEPECHE MODE songs in a variety of musical settings, including performances with a symphony orchestra, string quartet and in acoustic formats.

“I am incredibly excited about this collaboration. I will even be interrupting my solo tour in December especially to be part of this unique project. As the singer of a tribute band and a devoted DEPECHE MODE nerd, this is both an artistic challenge and an enormous honour: to be part of an event celebrating the music that means so much to me and has been part of my life - and to do so here in the city where I was born and still live. For me, it will be a feast for all the senses.”

The name 101 VOICES also references DEPECHE MODE’s history: the number 101 is taken from the title of the band’s 1988 concert film and live album. On 16 December, the production will take to a German arena stage for the first time.
