20th September 2009
Zoot Woman, Station 17
On the occasion of our 11th international “Grenzenlos Kultur” theatre festival in Mainz (which took place from September 10th to September 26th), the popular British synth pop / electroclash band ZOOT WOMAN was supposed to perform in our local cultural centre, alongside German experimental band STATION 17. This show also happened to be the German kickoff show of ZOOT WOMAN’s fall promo tour in support of their new third album ‘Things Are What They Used To Be’. However, unlike the other shows on the European tour, and since it was a special performance at a festival, ZOOT WOMAN did not bring along SCARLET SOHO as support act this time. The decision to attend this show was made rather spontaneous but since I live really close to Mainz, I arrived at the venue very early, just to see only a handful of people standing and sitting there apart from me and my friend. But this gaping void should change as soon as STATION 17 hit the stage just in time at 8 PM.

Magnum & Soley Mourning
The outlook of an evening with the Hard Rock veterans of MAGNUM lured quite a few people out to the Zeche in Bochum on this freezing cold and rainy Monday evening. We were following the call as well and were already very curious…

15 Years Black Cave: Rosa Crvx, Sol Invictus, Madre Del Vizio, Leaether Strip, Corvus Corax, Suicide Commando
One wondered if the 15th anniversary show of The Black Cave would not be a "Gothic Festival Leftover show" or "This is what we could not fit in" performance but with the same organisation and venue one thing would be certain: This was going to be good. You could comment on the line-up being a bit of a mixed bag of everything but this was a birthday party, put together by the birthday boy Bernd - the same guy who puts the entire summer festival together. So comments should not be in place and the enjoyment could begin.

Papa Roach, Madina Lake, Harmful
It all began in 1993, when front man and vocalist Jacoby Shaddix and the former drummer Dave Bruckner met on a football field and decided to form a band. The today’s line-up consists of Jerry Horton (lead guitar), Tony Palermo (drums, percussions) and Tobin Esperance (bass, backing vocals). The guys named their band PAPA ROACH after Shaddix´ grandfather William Roatch. The band produced the first full-length album `Old Friends from Young Years´ in 1997. Later on, they went on tour supporting INCUBUS and STATIC-X. Finally, the four-piece reached its breakthrough by releasing the long-player `Infest´ in 2000 and became popular due to the combination of the so-called Nu Metal style with Hard Rock sounds.

Cinema Bizarre, Blowsight, Used to Remind
Looking at the long queue of people on the way to the Live Music Hall we thought this was going to get really packed and sweaty in there. Turns out we were completely wrong after getting in. The venue wasn’t half-filled I’d say, and that wouldn’t really change in the further course of the evening. But nobody really bothered for they’re all waiting for that special moment, but they would have to wait for that a little. First, it was time for two support bands to hit the stage.
