The Synth scene of 2023 standardly provides high-quality sound, but not always solid material. It has already become a tradition, when listening to albums from both new and old projects good mixing, excellent mastering and high-quality arrangements are noticable, but the compositional abilities either repeat what was done by other musicians or even the same musician before or lead into completely different areas and sounds that are unusual for the specific project. However, this does not mean that the scene is dying. The scene is thriving and developing with many projects in music using other electronic genres, which periodically flow into unexpected final results. This year’s top included both new young projects, old-timers of the scene and the amazing productivity and efficiency of one musician.- Details

EPs, maxi-singles, compilations and remix releases are a separate section of music and exist by their own rules and therefore are evaluated according to their own criteria. Creating a good comprehensive EP and even more so a high-quality, interesting and varied remix release is not as easy as it might seem. It’s easier with EPs, because their advantage is a short duration and therefore less time for listening and easy comprehension. There were a lot of interesting EPs and remixes in 2023. Unfortunately, the top is limited to 10 positions, otherwise there would be more on the list, because there are enough worthy and interesting non-album releases for two tops every year.- Details

The Chamber Dark scene in 2023 was saturated mostly with projects of a Medieval and Pagan orientation. Good and bad, famous and unknown, dance and lyrical. There were not many Ethereal releases in 2023, but one ancient project returned from a long hiatus and created a miracle.
Covered genres: Ethereal, Neoclassics, Neofolk, Dark Folk, Death Country, Medieval Neofolk

The Dark Guitar scene in 2023 manifested itself primarily in the Gothic genres of Deathrock and Post-Punk. New names have recently appeared less frequently than 3-4 years ago, but they still appear with both new ideas and the execution of classic sound. In 2023, there were both young projects with debut releases and already known musicians who created new material, for some of whom it even turned out to be their debut.- Details

In 2023, in some marvelous way mostly projects from France showed themselves on the Gothic Electronic’s scene top. This would be easy to assume, given the geographical roots of the currently popular Coldwave genre, but the French musicians showed themselves not only in this style. In general, the Gothic scene unlike most other areas of the dark scene continues to develop due to the rapid revival of Coldwave, which is good news. And even if someone may not really like Coldwave in its pure form, its rise became an impact for classic Synth-Goth and Gothic Electro to return to the Olympus of the dark scene, as it was in the 2000s.- Special: Top 10 2023 - Beats’n’Noises album of the year
